James Skousen, DDS

Dr. James Skousen believes dentistry should feel straightforward, honest, and stress-free. With nearly 16 years in practice, he is confident in all areas of general dentistry, including implants, clear aligner therapy, root canal treatment, and comprehensive restorative care. He earned his degree from the University of Michigan in Ann Arbor and has been committed to clinical excellence ever since. Known for his direct and honest approach, Dr. Skousen believes in being truthful with patients no matter what and treats every person who sits in his chair like family. He takes time to clearly explain treatment options so patients can make confident decisions about their oral health. In addition to practicing dentistry, Dr. Skousen is an author, technologist, active inventor, and researcher who has a deep passion for learning in all areas of life. His curiosity and drive for innovation continually influence the way he approaches patient care and modern dental solutions. Outside the office, he loves all things outdoors — from getting lost in the desert in his Jeep to snowboarding in the mountains. He has been married for 15 years and is the proud father of six children. He also served a mission in Venezuela and speaks Spanish fluently, allowing him to serve a broader community with comfort and clarity.

Dr. Tony Rey - Periodontist

I’m usually pretty nervous about dental work, but Dr. Rey and his team were great. He’s very gentle and took the time to answer all my questions. The office is efficient and I didn’t have to wait long. If you’re looking for a periodontist who actually listens, he’s the one.

Dr. Rey started his journey to becoming a periodontist by working as a dental assistant for a periodontist prior to starting dental school. His desire to take on a dental assisting job early in his career gave him the opportunity to learn directly in a clinical setting. Observing how an experienced clinician treated patients with genuine care and attention helped shape Dr. Rey’s understanding of what exceptional care should look like. This experience helped shape the kind of clinician he wanted to become and also helped him find a love for the surgical side of dentistry. Now, years later after earning his Doctor of Dental Surgery degree from the University of Utah School of Dentistry, completing a 36-month Advanced Dental Education Program in Periodontics at Loma Linda University School of Dentistry, and earning a Master of Science in Dentistry in Periodontics degree at Loma Linda University School of Dentistry, he provides periodontal care for patients through Platinum Dental Services. Dr. Shaun Heward - Oral Maxillofacial Surgeon

I had oral surgery today. I had anesthesia and everything went perfectly. The whole team was great! Dr. Shaun Heward, the surgeon, is so caring and kind. He called me twice before my surgery to explain everything that would be done and to answer my questions. It really put me at ease.

Dr. Shaun Heward was born and raised in Sandy, Utah. He attended Alta High School and completed his undergraduate at University of Utah. During this time he worked as a dental laboratory technician making crowns and bridges. He then moved to Lexington, Kentucky where he completed dental school at the University of Kentucky College of Dentistry. Following dental school, he began medical school at the University of Michigan Medical School. While at the University of Michigan, he also completed his internship in general surgery, residency in Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery, and was a chief resident in Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery. Dr. Heward has extensive surgical training in corrective jaw surgery (orthognathic surgery), tumors/cysts of the jaws, face trauma, dental implants, wisdom teeth removal, cleft lip and palate, face reconstruction and bone grafting. He is delighted to have moved back to his home state of Utah and working with Platinum Dental Services. He also has a passion for serving others abroad and continues to treat less fortunate patients on mission trips overseas. When Dr. Heward is not at work he enjoys camping, fishing, hunting, biking, shooting, gardening, wood working and cooking.
